What’s so great about senior dogs?

old1Old dogs always seem to get a bad rap. You know, you always hear, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”

How true is this old adage? Sometimes old dogs are just so perfect, they don’t need taught anything, and sometimes old dogs carry a wise and quirky charm that shows through despite their old “set in their ways” attitude.

This witty charisma lead photographer Pete Thorne to begin his project, Old Faithful. Thorne noticed that the old dogs seemed to have their life stories written all over their faces.old6

“Notice how distinct older dogs’ faces are compared to more youthful ones,” said Thorne. “All the telltale signs: lumps and bumps, gray hair, chipped and missing teeth.”

Sometimes older dogs just have so much love to offer and when they are left in shelters they aren’t always given a second chance at a loving home.

So, the next time you are looking to add a new fuzzy family member to your home consider a golden oldie like our namesake, Poe.

Old rescued dogs will love you like no other dog you’ve ever owned. Will you give one a chance?
